Bee-lieve It!

get ready
for
loads and loads
of
honey recipes
well, truthfully
you will have a whole year to prepare
our hive went up today
and our bees arrive
april 7th

post invariable
emergency room visit
(a mere distraction
caused
by being stung numerous times)
we will sit and watch our
3lbs or
9,000 bees
acclimate themselves to their new home
isn't it just grand!
in the meanwhile
try not to bee too jealous
we will share the honey
eventually

  1. That's so exciting! We're planning to get bees, but we have so many other things to sort out first... so I'm not sure when we'll manage it. I can't wait to hear more about yours.

  2. Wow, I didn't know you had a bee farm! That's amazing. I loved the parts in The Secret Life of Bees that described them harvesting the honey. The work sounds so intricate. I'm actually less afraid of bees than any other bug with a stinger. I mean, come on, they're just so bumbly and cute. I actually saw a bee today on my way to the garage from class that was just kind of wallowing and groveling on the sidewalk like someone stepped on him. It made me sad... :(

  3. lauren...we don't actually have a bee farm..we have just a single hive...although a very big one that can hold a lot of bees and provide bunches of honey. we would like to build up to a few hives...but want to get through a few seasons of beekeeping first!
    bees are amazing creatures!

  6. Oh man, I knew someone other than Peaches (my cousin) would get it! :D I'm so glad you didn't erase your answer, because you are exactly right! So, yay, five entries for you in my giveaway. Thanks for stopping by. I'm really glad you enjoyed the poem. It was when I watched Stand By Me that River Phoenix just did something to my heart. I got in this phase like I did when Pirates of the Caribbean came out - I wanted to see everything Johnny Depp - where I got really interested in River Phoenix, and I was totally unprepared for what I found out about his childhood and the rest of his life. It's a heartbreaking story, and it just brought about such a feeling of compassion for him, and then this poem started to form in my head. Well, really, it was more of a tune with the line - River, run, river run run - just playing over and over in my mind. So I just formed words around it, and walah - my poem was born.
